British Sugar’s new headquarters in Peterborough delivers an inspiring and dynamic workplace for the future, whilst embracing the brand’s heritage and providing a collaborative home for its associated businesses: AB Sugar, ABFI and ABF. Set within a 55,000 sq ft purpose built new building, this modern workplace environment has been designed to attract new talent, and retain and engage employees.

We worked closely with the British Sugar team to understand business aspirations, work culture and the dynamics of the companies occupying the building. Collaboration, integration, flexibility and wellness were at the core of the design.

On arrival, visitors and employees are immersed in the heart of the business and the open and light atrium which links all floors. A vibrant coffee bar at the base of the atrium provides informal meeting space, using a variety of furniture settings to encourage team communication.

The workspace design uses key work settings and destinations to provide choice and diversity. Informal meeting spaces and touchdown areas are close to the atrium, promoting animation and linking with the social spaces below. Each floor has a balance of closed and open workspace, with a mix of meeting rooms, phone booths, quiet rooms, tea-points, soft seating and agile touchdown connectivity.
