Castleforge Partners appointed us to design a new co-working scheme for the iconic ‘Generator Building’ at Bristol's new Finzels Reach development. The 35,523 sq ft Grade II* listed building formerly housed the generator which powered the city’s tram system.

British sustainable furniture designers and manufacturers were appointed to reduce the carbon impact of importing pieces from afield. The building is now on track to achieve BREEAM Very Good and was designed with sustainability and well-being playing a vital part in the refurbishment process.

Where possible, as much of the existing materiality has been translated into the new design, such as the refurbished cathedral-like windows and the stripped back concrete slabs. By reducing the use of virgin materials and finishes in the project, MoreySmith has revitalised the iconic heritage of the building.
