Private Residence
Fowey, Cornwall
2011
Retaining the original character of this traditional Victorian property was at the core of the brief for the redesign of this coastal family residence. The building was stripped back to its external structure, creating more open space for a new modern interior.
A new powder-coated steel staircase, with reclaimed timber treads and glass risers, was introduced alongside a striking single pane of frosted double glazing, running the full 5.5-metre height of the stairwell. Exposed beams also complement the new skylights, allowing more natural light into the heart of the house.
Reclaimed timber flooring in the dining room creates a natural material warmth, while the crisp white walls and contemporary furniture offer a contrast of style and texture. Upstairs the attic was converted into an open-plan master bedroom and en-suite bathroom, with stunning views of the Fowey Estuary.
